The Shape of Light (working title) is a long-term, process-based art series that incorporates film production, sculptural installation, performance, research, collaboration, and live music composition. The Shape of Light will portray multi-layered social concerns in modern America. The series, showcasing politically relevant, personal stories from across the United States, will be presented at multiple venues, both physically and virtually, over the next few years.
The Shape of Light (Money Shot) is the first iteration of the project. It was presented as a part of the group show “The Earth Is Blue Like an Orange”, at The International Studios & Curatorial Program (ISCP), Brooklyn, NY.
Since March 2020, most of us have witnessed each other’s lives from a distance or virtually. We gathered information and shaped our realities through what the news, TV shows, and social media (even memes) presented us. In doing so, we have only been shown the surface of what is really going on, given a curated reality to consume. The manipulation and recycling of content has become a de facto storytelling practice, sometimes to our detriment. The role of the storyteller has become more important than ever—something that this project contends with. Storytellers need to question how the stories we tell are “framed” and how that influences audiences’ perception of others.
